Phonology and orthography

Xorban has a similar phoneme inventory to that of Lojban. It has 21 consonants and six vowels.

Consonant phonemes
Labial Dental Alveolar Palatal Velar Glottal
Plosive p b t d k g ʔ
Fricative f v (θ) s z ʃ ʒ x ɦ
Nasal m n
Lateral l
Rhotic r
Semivowel w j

/θ/ is marginal. It is a suggested realization of the letter ⟨h⟩, which is "used to indicate proposed and experimental operators."

Vowel phonemes
Front Central Back
Close i u
Mid ɛ ə ɔ
Open a
The Xorban alphabet
Grapheme none a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
Phoneme ə ɦ a b ʃ d ɛ f g θ i ʒ k l m n ɔ p ʔ r s t u v w x j z

(Differences from the IPA are highlighted.)

The schwa is not written; it occurs predictably and alternates with zero. It is still considered a phoneme.
